Essex villages treasure hunt
Discover an unspoilt part of the ancient county of Essex with our treasure hunt from medieval Thaxted to gorgeous Finchingfield.
Thaxted is one of Essex’s finest market towns, and has a recorded history pre-dating Domesday Book. After exploring Thaxted with its medieval Guildhall and Church, the route heads for Great Bardfield for a stroll along the high street. There are some bonus clues in the Bardfield Cage, a 19th century lock-up, which is open on weekends and bank holidays during the summer months. The final stop is the outstandingly beautiful village of Finchingfield, known as ‘the most photographed village in Essex’ – you will see why!
