Manchester treasure hunt
Try our Manchester treasure hunt exploring a city that is alive and jumping.
Our Manchester treasure hunt starts at Manchester Victoria station and begins by exploring the City's medieval Quarter. The route heads through the Cathedral Gardens past the National Football Museum, and then round the Cathedral itself. Right next to the Cathedral is Shambles Square, where the Old Wellington Inn is the oldest building in Manchester city centre. This half-timbered pub was actually dismantled and moved 300 metres as part of the redevelopments following the 1996 Manchester bombing. From there, we walk round Exchange Square, past the famous Corn Exchange building, before heading down New Cathedral Street to St Ann's Square and Church. After that, it's a short hop to Albert Square, where Manchester's Victorian Town Hall is currently subject to major restoration work, and then St Peter's Square, where the hunt ends at the Cenotaph.
