The Chess Valley Treasure Hunt starts in the small pretty village of Chenies, most famous for its Tudor mansion house, before heading down to Latimer. Chenies and Latimer were originally one village, called Isenhampstead, until the 13th century. We then take you through leafy lanes to Flaunden, where a surprise meets you in the hedgerows, then a final session in the wide village greens of Sarratt - ideal for a picnic. Great pubs along the way, ancient churches, picture-book cottages and much much more - all within 35 minutes of London.

We like...

  • The food at the Bricklayers Arms in Flaunden (especially the summer barbecues)
  • The snug at the Green Dragon: did you know infamous double agent Guy Burgess was a local at this pub?
The snug was where he met his contacts!
