Launch of Thames riverside treasure hunt

Today we have launched our latest new treasure hunt in London.  It's a riverside hunt, with a route centred on a particularly interesting and delightful stretch of the Thames Path from Hammersmith Bridge to Fuller's brewery.  Our Hammersmith to Chiswick treasure hunt starts at Hammersmith Broadway and ends by the George and Devonshire public house at Hogarth Roundabout, Chiswick. 

We know many of our customers like to combine a hunt day out with other treats, and fortunately on this gorgeous stretch of the river there are lots of ideas to choose from.

At the Hammersmith end, there is the Riverside Studios, which shows independent films and theatre, and of course the Hammersmith Apollo for a big night out with big names.  If feeling flush, consider splashing out on a special lunch at the world-reknown River Cafe, 5 minutes walk along the Thames Path from Hammersmith Bridge towards Fulham.  If not, then a beautifully cooked breakfast at The Old Ship will set you back just £7 with a fabulous riverside view too.  Now that's a good way to start your
weekend!

This stretch is also home to many of London's rowing clubs - early birds out treasure hunting will have to dodge the long sculling boats being carried by fit types down into the water at daybreak in summer.  Try to not play the hunt on Boat Race weekend if you can as it will be heaving (2014 date is Sunday April 6th).  Chiswick Mall itself boasts splendid homes with lush gardens opening on to the river, and is also the opening scene of William Makepeace Thackeray's novel 'Vanity Fair' (did you know Thackeray is the great-great-great grandfather of another Chiswick local - comedian Al Murray, the Pub Landlord).

At the Chiswick end of the treasure hunt there is also the possibility of taking a Fuller's Brewery Tour and Beer Tasting.  These have to be booked in advance with Fuller's here and are great fun.  Although there are many wonderful pubs for food and drink on this hunt, there are also a couple of choice spots for a picnic to finish - either in the elegant Chiswick House grounds five minutes away, or carry along the towpath past St Nicholas Church into the green Riverside Recreation grounds.

A final checknote - if parking on Chiswick Mall watch the high tides, as they can reach up to car level on particularly high dates - you can check the high tide timetable here.
